Failed payments, cancelling and read-only access
What actually happens when a payment fails or you cancel.
When a subscription payment fails
Stripe retries on its own schedule. Update your card from Settings → Plan & Billing and the banner clears.
A failed payment does not restrict your account. Full access continues while Stripe retries.
When a subscription lapses
If it’s never resolved, or you cancel and the period runs out, the workspace goes read-only.
You can still:
View everything: accounts, projects, offers, invoices, all of it
Export all your data as a zip
Resubscribe
Change your password and security settings
Delete the workspace if you want to
You can’t create or edit anything: no new invoices, no editing projects, no inviting people, no settings changes.
Your data is not deleted automatically right now, but we still strongly encourage you to export your data, if you decide to leave Billow.
Cancelling
Owner only, from Settings → Plan & Billing.
Cancelling runs to the end of your current period. You keep full access until then.
Changed your mind during that window? Resume puts you straight back.
Resume only works before the period ends. Once it’s lapsed there’s no resume button, and coming back means choosing a plan and checking out again.
Before you cancel
Grab an export. It’s available during the grace period and afterwards in read-only, but we still encourage you to export your data before you cancel. See Exporting your data.
Deleting the workspace
Owner only, and you have to cancel first. While a subscription is live you’ll see “Cancel your subscription before deleting this workspace.”
Export anything you want to keep before you do.
