Accepting card payments with Stripe

With a Stripe account connected, your invoices can offer a Pay button. The client pays by card and the invoice marks itself paid.

Connecting

The Card Payments card sits on Settings → Accounting. Connecting sends you to Stripe, where you either sign in to an existing account or create one.

Stripe asks for your business details, and Billow pre-fills what it can: your legal name, your country, and your email.

Any admin can connect or disconnect. Owner isn’t required.

Verification status

Stripe verifies the account before it can take money. The Card Payments card shows the current state.

While Stripe reviews:

Verification in Progress

Stripe is reviewing your account details. This is usually quick, and no action is needed from you.

If something is missing, the card turns orange:

Action Needed

Stripe needs more information before your account can accept payments. Card payments can’t be selected on invoices until this is resolved.

Both link straight through to your Stripe dashboard. Finish what’s outstanding there and Billow picks the change up on its own. Reconnecting is never needed.

Until the status is Active, Card isn’t selectable as a payment method on an invoice. Bank transfer still works.

Active doesn’t make Card the default. With a bank account added too, new invoices default to bank transfer and you pick Card per invoice.

Disconnecting

Blocked while any draft or unpaid invoice offers card payment.

Switch those invoices to bank transfer, or get them paid, then disconnect.

Fees and payouts

Stripe’s fees and payout schedule are between you and Stripe. Billow takes no cut of what your clients pay you and never touches the money. Payouts land in whatever bank account you gave Stripe.
